North Manchester - Hooksett’s (NMH) pitchers held Portsmouth to just five hits in their 3-2 victory over Portsmouth on Monday night in the teams’ first game of the championship round of NH’s District 2 Little League tournament.
NMH got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single and plated two more runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead 3-0.
Portsmouth got their bats going in the top
of the fourth as Cooper Peelman led off with a double. A single by Alec Lyng set up Griffin Gamester to drive in two runs with a single to right field to make the score 3-2.
Myles Robillard started the on the mound for Portsmouth and tossed one inning before Gamester took over in relief. Gamester surrendered four hits and three runs over 1.2 innings. Max Poulin took on the final 2.1 innings and held NMH hitless while striking out four.
Gamester led Portsmouth at the plate by going 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Grady Cronin, Peelman and Lyng were the only other Portsmouth players with hits on the night.
Top tournament seed Lamprey River fell to Rye (#4 seed) on Monday night. Portsmouth now travels to Auburn for a 7 PM start on Tuesday for an elimination game versus Lamprey River.
