Portsmouth LL 10U District Run Comes to End Against Concord

The Portsmouth Little League 10U District Team put together a valiant comeback effort after some early inning missteps, but the team lost to Concord Little League 14-9 on Thursday.  Portsmouth ended their District run with a 4-4 record.  Concord advances to face Lamprey River in the 10 District 2 Championship on Saturday.

Concord got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring three and added to their lead in the top of the second inning.  Down 7-0 Portsmouth scratched across a run in the bottom of the second with singles from Angus McCafferty, Pierce Gillen and Max Levine.

Portsmouth continued their comeback by scoring five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marco Scardina singled, scoring one run. Scardina then tallied two stolen bases and scored on a throwing error to third base.  Gillen grounded out, scoring one run, Josh Miller tripled, scoring one run, and a passed ball allowed Miller to score, too.  Portsmouth stayed aggressive on the bases stealing nine in total keeping the threat to score alive through the final out.

Nolan Malinowski took the loss for Portsmouth. Rory O’Brien, Miller, and Ryder Raizes all worked in relief.
