Northfield, NH and Auburn, NH -- The Portsmouth 10- to 12-year-old District All-Star team secured the top seed in the upcoming, double-elimination round of the New Hampshire District 2 Little League tournament with two wins over Tilton-Northfield and Lamprey River this week to remain undefeated.
On Thursday, two home runs in the third inning propelled Portsmouth to a 6-3 win over Tilton-Northfield. The two-run blasts by Joey St. Laurent and Blaze Bocash gave Portsmouth a lead that they would not relinquish. Jack Moreau got the win on the mound for Portsmouth, pitching 5 solid innings with 6 strikeouts and allowing only 1 unearned run.
On Saturday, Portsmouth finished round robin play on a strong note, defeating Lamprey River 11-4. Portsmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a Cam Stacy double that scored two runs, and a Colton McCain single that plated another run. For the game, Alex Hodsdon led Portsmouth with 3 hits, and Jack Spencer and Griffin McGuckin also collected multiple hits. Portsmouth used 4 pitchers in the game, with Joey St. Laurent starting and securing the win.
Portsmouth returns to action on Monday night at 5:45pm at Hislop Park in Portsmouth, and will face North Manchester-Hooksett in the first game of the double-elimination championship round.
