Second-Inning Surge Leads Portsmouth LL 10U District Team Past Suncook

Pembroke, NH – The Portsmouth Little League (PLL) 10U District team (2-1) scored five runs in the second inning on Wednesday night to propel the team to an 8-2 win over Suncook.

With bases loaded after a series of walks to Angus McCafferty, Bennett Smith and Ryder Raizes, PLL’s Joey Coakley was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.  Jackson Kern smashed his second single of the game to score the game’s second run, and Marco Scardina drew another walk to score Raizes.  Nolan Malinowski roped a single to left field allowing two runs score to cap the big inning.

Portsmouth added two runs in the third and one more in the fifth, finishing the game with seven hits, including a double by Smith. Kern and Malinowski had two hits apiece, and Rory O’Brien and Raizes added in singles of their own.

Malinowski earned his second win of the Round Robin on the mound for Portsmouth.  The righty allowed one hit and zero runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking one.  O’Brien and Pierce Gillen each appeared in relief for Portsmouth. O’Brien allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out three in 1.1 innings. Gillen struck out two Suncook batters in the final inning of the contest. Behind the plate, Scardina was flawless allowing no passed balls in six innings of work.
