11-12 District team defeats Suncook 11-0

Portsmouth's 11-12 district team moved to 3-0 in NHD2 pool play on Wednesday at Hislop Field on a strong pitching performance by Jakoby Schoppmeyer.  Schoppmeyer threw 66 pitches [41 for strikes] in a complete game [5 innings] effort giving up 1 hit with 12 K's including striking out the side in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings.  He faced 17 batters over 5 innings of play.
 
Portsmouth's offense came alive in the 4th inning starting with an inside the park home run by Finn McCauley followed by consecutive singles by Jack Moreau, Alec Lehrer [RBI], Cam Stacy [RBI], and Hatcher Caron [RBI].  The 4th inning ended with singles by Schoppmeyer and Jack Ferrelli [2 for 4, 2 RBI] for a 6-0 lead.  Five more runs were scored in the 5th inning beginning with a triple by Roan Wilson followed by Theo Levine [single, run], Jake Poulin [single, run], and Ferrelli. The game was called after the 5th inning for the 10-run rule.
 
Suncook's starting pitcher, Isaac Giosetti, kept the Portsmouth batters off the bases through his 3 innings of work giving up 1 hit while striking out 5.  When he was replaced on the mound the game was scoreless.  Noah Tatro took the loss for Suncook.
 
Portsmouth continues play on Tuesday, July 12 with a game vs Concord at Grappone Field in Concord.
