District 11/12 Game Report from 7/14

Portsmouth 6 - Lamprey River 2

In a game that saw 3 weather related delays finishing under the lights Portsmouth [5-1] bested Lamprey River [3-3] to move into second place in the district standings.  Starting pitcher Nik Uhlir, Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 10 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 batters. Nicky Beidleman closed the game with 2 quick outs to seal the win for Portsmouth.

While the offense continued to hit the ball Portsmouth's defense kept the game in hand.  In the top of the 3rd inning with 2 men on base and no outs shortstop Carter Kuhn leapt to catch a pop-up to short center field turning a double play when he threw to the second baseman to catch the runner on 2nd base scrambling to tag up.  In the next inning with Lamprey River already getting on the board with 2 runs, catcher Samuel Sheldon picked off the runner on 3rd to end the inning and a Lamprey River threat.

Offensively for Portsmouth Jackson Hooper [2 for 3] hit his first home run of the tournament plating 2 runs to give Portsmouth breathing room after Lamprey River had cut Portsmouth's lead to 4-2 in the prior inning.  Adding to the offense was Finn McCauley [2 for 3, 3 RBI], Carter Kuhn [double], Hunter Henderson [1 for 2, 3 runs], and Nolan Bernier [single, RBI, run].

Portsmouth finishes the round robin portion of the district 2 tournament on Saturday at home with a game against 1st place North Manchester Hooksett.
