Portsmouth LL Preseason Pitching Clinic
Sunday – 3:00 – 4:00 (9 & 10) / 4:00 – 5:00 (11 & 12)
With the season right around the corner, Powerhouse Sports and NEB NH are excited to help get Portsmouth Little League’s arms moving in the right direction! During this clinic, each pitcher will learn a proper warm up, arm care drills, and more efficient throwing mechanics to increase output and put them in safer positions. In addition, they will work on a competitive pitching mindset and building intent. Our lead instructors will be Tommy Lawrence and Liam O’sullivan, who have over a decade of Professional pitching experience combined.
When we work with youth pitchers, we do not get extremely in-depth regarding mechanics. We avoid substantial mechanical checkpoints because these kids are not going to move like an elite professional pitcher, just yet. Instead, we focus on intent while throwing to a target, as the body has a better chance to sync up naturally better. We will not teach them how to throw breaking balls, it is usually counterproductive at that age.
Every Athlete will be taken through a proper warm up and arm activation routine. In addition, we will focus on throwing volume (not on mound) to start, as we want to build up arm strength before throwing off of the mound. We use constraint drills more so than specific mechanical teaching, so they can “feel” what their body is doing during those movements. To add intent and create a competitive environment similar to a game situation, we utilize the radar gun.

Week 1-2 – Strengthening & Build up Phase – Pitcher’s movements – Long toss – Arm Strength

Week 3-4 – Mound Blend Phase – Long toss – Mound Plyos – Mound pitching

Week 4-6 – Live Build Up Phase – Constraint drills on mound – Mound pitching
For those interested, we will also have a catching clinic during those times as well. We will work on setup, receiving, blocking, and throwing. We will combine the catchers work with the pitchers off the mound.
