Big Second Inning Leads Portsmouth 10U Past Lamprey River

Portsmouth 10U scored six runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Lamprey River by a score of 11-1 on Saturday at Suncook Memorial Field.

Portsmouth got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Joey Coakley walked, stole second base, and scored on a throwing error. Ryder Raizes walked, and Ryan Poulin singled on a perfectly placed bunt, scoring Raizes. Drew Larrabee grounded out, allowing another Poulin to score.

In the second inning. Gabe Fournier, Tyler Hodges, and Cape Ellison walked to load the bases. Christopher Foster singled, scoring two runs. Lead off batter Joey Coakley drew a walk.  Raizes walked to score one run.
Poulin drew a walk, scoring one run. Grady Maloney was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and a passed ball scored one run for Portsmouth.

Portsmouth extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Fournier and Sam Carter.

Raizes earned the win for Portsmouth. The right-hander gave up one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Maloney appeared in relief for Portsmouth. He struck out two in one inning of work.

Drew Cresta, Poulin, Carter, Fournier and Foster Ryan each collected one hit for Portsmouth. Foster led Portsmouth with two runs batted in going 1-for-1 on the day. Portsmouth had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game. 

Next up for Portsmouth 10U is the NH District 2 championship game vs. North Manchester-Hooksett at 11AM game on Sunday at Suncook Little League’s Memorial Field (45 Pleasant St., Pembroke).
