Portsmouth's 12U Little League team (4-0) defeated Concord Little League on Tuesday night at Grappone Field in Concord, 10-0.
The team jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Cooper Peelman tripled, scoring two runs. Lucas LaFleur drew a walk, allowing the team to tack on another run in the third, too.
In the bottom of the fourth, Max Poulin tripled driving in two more runs. The team tacked on two more runs via a single by Nathanial Blanchard and a sacrifice fly by Mia Delaney.
Griffin Gamester earned the win for Portsmouth. The starting pitcher allowed just one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Poulin stepped in as the relief pitcher in the top of the fifth inning. With no outs and two runners on, Poulin got a strike out. Then, he induced a fielder's choice and infield pop-up that left two runners stranded for Concord.
In the bottom of the fifth, LaFleur tripled to drive in the final two runs for Portsmouth to end the game via 10-run rule.
"Our pitchers have really been able to keep runners off of the bases and allow our offense to get rolling early in games," said Manager Matt LaFleur. "These kids are great and look forward to every game. We'll need all of them to continue playing their best over the next two weeks to give us a chance to get to another district championship game."
LaFleur, Poulin, and Peelman each drove in two runs for Portsmouth. The team was flawless in the field and committed no errors.
Portsmouth continues its NH District 2 pool play action at home on Tuesday, July 9 against North Manchester-Hooksett (4-0) in their next game.
